Appreciative learning (AL) is moving beyond problem solving, which is a deficient mindset, to the world of possibility, which is a values mindset. AL has its theoretical foundation in Appreciative Inquiry (AI). AI was developed by David Cooperrider, professor of organizational behavior at Case Western Reserve University. Karen Norum writes “As opposed to problem solving, AI begins with a search for the best of ‘what is’ rather than looking for exactly what is wrong or what needs to be ‘fixed.’ This community will explore AL as a form of learning that goes beyond problem-based learning (PBL).
